What will it be like?
Our Girls Write the World's retreat provides participants with an action packed day full of poetry, sisterhood, and creation. There is no cost associated with participating in Girls Write the World and lunch will be provided to all student writers and volunteers. Over the course of the day, participants will study the work of inspiring female poets and work to develop their own poems. We'll also lead small group discussions and workshops that address the unique challenges of girlhood and provide participants with guidance on how to face those challenges. Our hope is that participants will leave our day together feeling stronger, braver, and more joyful.
Our theme this year, "When I Dare to be Powerful" is a reference to the writer and activist Audre Lorde's powerful statement, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." Together we will spend time reflecting on our own power. When do we feel powerful and when don't we? As women, what are the implications of wielding power? What mindsets can we cultivate to empower ourselves and others? How is power connected to our sense of worthiness, self love, and survival? Through reading, writing, and discussion, we'll begin to process and reflect upon these important questions.
We look forward to a power-filled day of community and creativity. It's going to be so fun and so beautiful! If you have questions about the day's program please contact us at: info@girlswritetheworld.org
