OUR MISSION
Girls Write the World is a literacy and youth development program serving young women in the Mississippi Delta. Our mission is to provide a safe space for female creativity, to build leadership skills, self-esteem, critical consciousness and community, and to celebrate, affirm, and project young female voices.
Our feminist, anti-racist programming empowers our participants to be brave, confident, engaged young people through a unique combination of poetry writing classes, social justice workshops, health education, and college counseling.
Since our founding in December 2014, Girls Write the World has hosted a weekend writers' retreat every Spring as well as a week-long summer camp each June. To date, Girls Write the World has served over 80 young women and created more than 500 pieces of original poetry.
